Planet is a site where craft, design and fine art concepts intersect, and often blur. Our store in Surry Hills, central Sydney, displays furniture designed by Ross Longmuir alongside contemporary Australian studio ceramics, fine textiles and other homeware items.

Planet’s furniture combines the unique resources of solid Australian hardwoods with the tradition of highly skilled timber craftsmanship. We use sustainably grown timber from re-growth forests, rather than old growth or rainforest. Planet is famous for the use of solid Australian hardwoods and is pioneering the use of Solid Australian Plywood for furniture. Ross Longmuir’s original designs can be customised to meet specific requirements and a full design service is offered for custom pieces. Our showroom displays an extensive sample of our capabilities.

Planet’s ceramics come from a diverse and dynamic range of Australian makers. Collectable and museum quality work with a functional reference sit alongside studio production ware. The makers employ various porcelains, bone china, stoneware and found clay bodies and utilise a range of surface treatments and making methods.

Planet’s fine craft textile collection comes from specialists who have developed innovative and unique styles of making from a traditional basis. Methods include shibori, printing, stitching, embossing and weaving in unusual materials such as metal, newspaper and found botanical matter.

Other homeware items feature beautiful natural fibre raw materials from Australia with an emphasis on pieces with an environmental edge.
